Chloe was founded by designer Gaby Aghion, who was born in Alexandria, Egypt. In 1945, she moved to Paris, France and launched her business in 1952. It is believed that she coined the phrase “pret-a-porter,” or ready-to-wear. The brand became known for creating beautiful clothes that could be purchased off the racks, as opposed to requiring custom measurements, as was common in haute couture and much of 1950s fashion. The first fragrance was introduced in 1975, with Coty currently holding the fragrance license.
